I had a pretty good weekend considering my emotional Friday. That evening I headed over to my brother Danny’s house with my mother. We often head over to his place on the weekends since he lives alone and has a nice big/spacious house. It’s kind of a mini-getaway for mom and I.

Friday night we ordered some Chinese food for the three of us, and then Danny and I watched Atomic Blonde. Personally, I enjoyed it, even though I thought there would be a lot more fight scenes, but it was a nice balance. Charlize Theron plays a British (MI6) Agent who goes to Berlin undercover to discover who murdered one of their own, track down a list of highly classified undercover agents gone missing AND find the mole in their agency. She has their work cut out for her when she’s made the second she lands in Berlin. She meets up with Berlin stationed MI6 Agent (played by James McAvoy), and is lead down the rabbit hole of double-crossing, agents from other agencies and the Berlin wall coming down in a few days upheaval.

The acting is superb, the fight scenes are amazing (Charlize is so kick ass … I love her). They are also realistic. In one scene, both she and the man she’s fighting are stumbling around in pain/missing punches, etc … it was just really well done and the plot twist at the end really threw me and I had NO IDEA was coming, so that was a huge plus.

I give it a 8/10 rating (loses points for some parts being a tad slow/meh).

I also finished a book: The Rules (Project Paper Doll, #1). Can see my review at the link.

On Saturday I made dinner for the family (and Mike who happened to be over working on a light for my brother). I made flat bread pizza, which was quite delicious and everyone pretty much gobbled up so w00t. I made a bbq chicken + bacon one, a veggie one and a meat lovers one with bacon, sausage and pepperoni.

Afterward we all watched the new Spiderman: Homecoming movie. I had already seen it, but it is good enough to watch a second time. Mike left after that movie, but my brother Nelson and sister-in-law Trisha stayed behind and we watched The House with Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler. It was one of Will’s more recent films that was slightly better. It was funny in some parts and just eh, in others. I think they sometimes go way too far with shit and just is NOT funny … I often wonder what they are thinking because we just sit there going, really? Overall though, it’s your typical Will Ferrell movie … with the raunchy jokes, weird violence and ‘Im a badass’ moments. I give it a 6/10 rating.

Trisha and Nelson left after that and I watched The Dark Tower with my brother Danny. I absolutely LOVED this movie. Best one I have seen in a while and was really surprised it didn’t get better ratings. I think I loved it so much because this is one book series I did not read … so the movie was all on its own for my enjoyment. Apparently the people that didn’t enjoy it at all are the hardcore book series fans. So, knowing how Hollywood has messed up movies on books I’ve read, I can kind of see where all the hate is coming from. Now… know that…. I still LOVED IT. Idris Elba is amazing. Even Matthew McConaughey does a great job as an evil sorcerer. I already bought it for my own collection because I can see myself watching this over and over. I did find it rather short … and think they could have done a LOT more in the movie (another gripe fans had). So that’s why it gets 9/10.

Sunday I slept most of the day and then got up and rewatched Stark Trek Beyond + Into Darkness. I also rewatched Priest which reignited my love for Paul Bettany. That man is such an amazing actor and I wish he was in a lot more things (though he’s now in the Avengers movies… still!).

I also chipped away a few of my old books this past week. I’ve read 5 so far. I reached my goal of 30 for the year also. I may UP the goal, but I am not sure to what. Maybe 45 or 50? I go through phases with reading, but I have found that the more I read, the more I want to WRITE … and I really want to write. So maybe I will up the goal. LOL.
